Dear Parents/Guardians,

Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) and Statewide Full-Day Prekindergarten are special early childhood programs established by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and contracted by School Districts to provide an early learning experience for the children of eligible families. Eligible families are those who live in the North Rockland Central School District and have children who will be four years old by December 1, 2024 (your child must have been born between December 2, 2019, and December 1, 2020). Universal Prekindergarten and Statewide Full-Day Prekindergarten are now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year.  There is a qualified teacher and teaching assistant in every class.  Universal Pre-Kindergarten students attend for five (5) half days for 2½ hours each day; the children in Statewide Full-Day Prekindergarten attend five (5) days a week for 5 hours each day for 180 days per school year, at no cost to you.

STATEMENT OF METHOD FOR SELECTION OF CHILDREN:
North Rockland Central School District reviews copies of the original completed applications to verify eligibility. The District holds a lottery if submitted applications are more than the number of slots funded by NYSED for the UPK and Statewide Full-Day Prekindergarten program.  Children considered for the lottery must have a complete application on file with proof of age eligibility and residency.   Attached you will find a form that lists all, of the approved UPK Childcare locations around the county that parents can choose from.  Parents can choose up to three childcare sites and rate them in priority order.  The District will place children according to parent choice, if possible.  Parents of selected students must participate in an in-person interview that will be scheduled between March 4th - March 22th, and must complete the registration process.  Parents/Guardians will be notified of their child’s placement status by mail once slots are filled. The 2024/2025 Kindergarten Registration 

Registration for Kindergarten will be open for children born between 12/2/2018-12/1/2019

• If your child received Universal Pre-K through North Rockland, you will not need to register again for this upcoming school year.  Please contact registration@northrockland.org if you have a change of residence.  The elementary school will be contacting you about a Kindergarten screening.
• If your child did not attend Universal Pre-K through North Rockland, you will need to fully register for Kindergarten. You can register your child either online or fill out a registration packet.  Packets will be at the orientation, or you can get one at the Central Office. 
• Kindergarten Registration will be from January 16th-February 9th.

In order to change your address, you must have proof of your new residence. Proof of your new residence includes:

-A signed lease
-Closing papers (if new purchase)
-Or two of the following: 
        -Current utility bills (water, electric/gas, cable, telephone)
        -Current pay stub
        -Official Driver’s license, permit, vehicle insurance, or one of the following:

If you are moving OUT of the district, please contact your child(rens) school(s) and sign them out.

• Photo Identification
• 2 forms of utility bills 
• Immunization Records
• Most recent medical physical
• Child's birth certificate
• Custody Order (if applicable)
• Renters/homeowners Affidavit (if applicable)

Please provide the documents that show the new name change whether it is for the student or parent/guardian. (Birth certificate, Marriage license, social security card, etc.)
