Third Graders Travel the U.S. Through Letters
The Road to 50. Third grade classes led by Danielle Blickley at Theills Elementary and Lauren Murphy at Stony Point Elementary teamed up for a friendly geography challenge: collect mail from all 50 states.
By reaching out to family, friends and members of the school community, students received more than 200 letters and postcards from across the country.
Along the way, students strengthened their understanding of U.S. geography, climate and culture while learning how to write letters, address envelopes and respond with thoughtful thank-you notes. In the end, the two classes were just 10 states shy of receiving mail from all 50 and each postcard represented a meaningful connection with someone who took the time to support their learning.
