Meet Police Officer Gavin Maher—the new School Resource Officer (SRO) for both Willow Grove Elementary School and Thiells Elementary School!
Officer Maher comes to us with seven years of experience in law enforcement, having served the past three years with the Haverstraw Town Police Department after starting his career with the NYPD. Not only is he an accomplished officer, but he's also a proud Red Raider alumni.
Reflecting on his school years in North Rockland, Officer Maher fondly recalls how close-knit and supportive the community has always been. "I'm thrilled to be giving back to the community I grew up in, especially since I was once a student at Willow Grove," he shared.
During his time at NRHS, Officer Maher was an all-star athlete, serving as team captain of the football team and achieving All-Section, All-County, and All-State honors. He even took home the prestigious Joe Goods Award (MVP)! After high school, he went on to play college football at Pace University, building on his passion for sports and leadership.
Now, Officer Maher is eager to bring his dedication and hometown pride to his role as SRO. He looks forward to getting to know the students, sharing in the spirit of North Rockland, and helping to create a safe, supportive environment at both Willow Grove and Thiells. We are thrilled to have him!
